Grade 8 Math Course Selection

Grade 8 Math Course Selections (2026-27 SY)

Woodbury School offers two math paths for incoming 8th graders: Mathematics 8 and Mathematics 8 Algebra. Both courses provide a challenging and comprehensive foundation in Algebra and Geometry, and both courses prepare students for achieving high levels of math at Salem High School. The courses differ in pace and depth. Math 8 covers all of the 8th grade curriculum at a standard pace (similar to Math 7) and provides students with a deep foundation of concepts. Math 8 Algebra covers all of the 8th grade curriculum at a significantly quicker pace in order to include the additional Algebra 1 standards. Therefore, the accelerated Math 8 Algebra course may not be the best placement for all students’ developmental needs.

We have mailed home assessment data to all eligible 7th grade math students. Please review this data and discuss which path will best meet your child’s developmental needs and academic goals. Once you have made your decision, please make your selection on this form.

    Depth

    • Successful Math 8 Algebra students are proficient with operations with rational numbers so their cognitive lift is centered around learning complex, multi-step concepts and strategies for problem solving.
